According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2021 there were 304,000 children and teenagers living with type 1 diabetes. Hoping to improve visibility and representation around this condition, Mattel collaborated with Breakthrough T1D, a type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization, to launch the first-ever Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes.

The new Barbie has two parallel missions: to allow children with type 1 diabetes to see themselves in the toys they play with; and to expand the world’s view of those experiencing this condition, hoping to foster acceptance and empathy. The doll will join Barbie's global Fashionistas lineup, which features more than 175 dolls with different skin tones, eye colors, hair textures, body types, disabilities, and fashion styles.

Breakthrough T1D worked with Mattel to accurately depict the medical equipment used by someone with type 1 diabetes, as well as the doll's looks. Most notably, this Barbie wears a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) with heart-shaped medical tape on her arm. These devices measure a person’s blood-sugar levels throughout the day, sometimes with the help of a smartphone app—like the one displayed on Barbie's phone.

Attached to the doll’s waist is a small insulin pump, which provides patients with automated insulin dosing as needed. Her polka dot outfit is a nod to the blue circle, a worldwide symbol for diabetes awareness. Barbie also comes with a purse to carry snacks and other medical supplies she may need to keep her blood sugar in check.

“We were thrilled when Barbie approached us to collaborate on the development of the Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes,” says Aaron J. Kowalski, Ph.D., CEO of Breakthrough T1D. “I have lived with T1D since I was 13, and my brother since he was 3, so this partnership is deeply personal—it means the world to be part of bringing greater visibility to a condition that affects so many families. It’s an honor to work with a brand that shares our commitment to showing children that a life with type 1 diabetes can be full, vibrant, and empowering.”

Mattel donated the first of these Barbies with type 1 diabetes to the young attendees of the Breakthrough T1D 2025 Children’s Congress. At this event, patients between 4 and 17 years old raised support for scientists looking for a cure for type 1 diabetes among lawmakers. The Barbie with type 1 diabetes is also available to the general public, and you can find it on Mattel's online store, as well as at retailers like Walmart and Amazon.

When you picture Freddie Mercury, what is he wearing? The Queen legend is perhaps most remembered in his iconic white-and-yellow military-style jacket, posing with his fist in the air on stage. In tribute to that unforgettable moment from Queen’s 1986 Magic tour, LEGO set designer Takesz recreated the scene as a buildable 3D poster. Measuring 65 centimeters (25.6 inches) tall and 40 centimeters (15.7 inches) wide, the finished piece is nearly as show-stopping as Mercury himself.

Built entirely from classic LEGO elements like bricks, tiles, and slopes, Takesz designed the model using exactly 1,986 pieces—a clever nod to the year of the legendary concert at Wembley Stadium. The figure of Mercury appears to burst from the background, thanks to a layered design that gives the model a dramatic effect. His legs, torso, and left arm are solidly anchored, while the rest, like his head, feet, and outstretched arm, are created using dynamic, flexible joints. Takesz even captured impressive details like the fabric folds in Mercury’s jacket and the signature stripes on his sneakers.

The set also includes a tiny LEGO minifigure of Mercury at his Steinway grand piano, performing Bohemian Rhapsody to 72,000 fans in 1986. As well as Mercury’s outfit, this image of the artist at his piano became a defining image of Queen’s legendary tour.

The incredible LEGO build allows Queen fans to celebrate their love of Mercury and this historic performance, brick by brick. “The model is fun to build (and yes, it also takes time), and with the tandem setting with the minifigure it can be placed around the room any way you like,” says Takesz. “It’s not only a set to amaze others, it is a set to remind us of the limitless bond of music through generations.” The LEGO designer adds, “The Wembley show turns 40 next year. Bohemian Rhapsody was released exactly 50 years ago. The timing is Magic.”

The Freddie Mercury LEGO build is currently featured on the LEGO Ideas website, where fans submit creations and vote for their favorites. With just over 2,000 votes so far, it still has a long road to reach the 10,000 needed for LEGO to officially consider it for production. If you’d love to it become a real LEGO set, head over to the LEGO Ideas site and cast your vote.

Krusty Burger Simpsons LEGO set

The long-running TV show The Simpsons wouldn't be what it is without its colorful cast of characters—including Krusty the Clown, whose TV show the Simpson kids, Bart and Lisa, never miss. Krusty's fame is so encompassing, and his ambition so big, that he has a whole line of products and commercial ventures—and none of them are as famous as his fast food chain, Krusty Burger. Now, thanks to LEGO, you can recreate the beloved fictional chain restaurant in all its greasy glory.

The 1,635-set piece depicts all the elements that make up Krusty Burger. This includes the towering sign that greets customers and the orange facade, complete with graffiti and its Krusty-themed drive-thru board. Inside, Jeremy, better known as the squeaky-voiced teen, runs the kitchen, Officer Lou enjoys a meal, and Sideshow Bob schemes with a pie in hand. Lisa, who's been a vegetarian for a long time, keeps herself entertained by playing the sax.

The set and the featured minifigures also give a nod to some specific episodes. In the back, Homer—with a shirt stained by Krusty Burger sauce—and Bart can be seen stealing grease, reminiscent of their “yellow gold” scheme from the first episode of Season 10, “Lard of the Dance.” Meanwhile, Krusty rocks the farmer outfit worn in the Mother Nature Burger ad from the final episode of Season 20, “Coming to Homerica.” The clown car Homer drives as Krusty's pupil in “Homie the Clown” from the sixth season also makes an appearance.

With a removable roof, you can choose between enjoying the action from above or opening the set as if it were a stage—one where Bart creates mayhem at Krusty's Kidz Zone, the Buzz Cola machine leaks, and a screen displays an order for 700 Krusty burgers, placed by a desperate Homer after becoming trapped in the jungle with his son and pals. Way too many adventures have taken place at this joint, which was once given the title of “the unhealthiest restaurant in the world.”

The Krusty Burger Simpsons LEGO set is now available from LEGO's webstore as part of their ICONS series. If you're a fan of The Simpsons or know a lifelong scholar of the series, this is the perfect addition to their collection. previous The Simpsons LEGO sets include the Kwik-E-Mart and the Simpsons' house.

Keith Haring’s 1987 piece Untitled (Dance) stands as a vibrant symbol of the Neo-Expressionist and Pop Art movements. Featuring five dynamic, dancing figures, the artwork captures the energy of New York’s 1970s and ’80s club scene. Over the years, these bold, joyful icons have leapt off gallery walls and onto everything from posters to t-shirts. Now, they’re taking on a new form, reimagined as a colorful LEGO set.

Made from chunky plastic bricks, the playful LEGO set brings Haring’s bold black lines, bright colors, and nonstop energy to life in a way that’s just as fun to build as it is to show off. The 1,773-piece set comes with five building instruction booklets—one for each of the five dancing figures in orange, blue, yellow, pink, and green. It even includes LEGO pieces to recreate the artwork’s dynamic movement lines that highlight the figures’ wiggles, jumps, and shakes.

Kalegoidoscope, a kaleidoscope made of LEGO

LEGO bricks are typically used for building miniature structures, but a new project in the LEGO Ideas platform sees a particular new use with some of the colorful blocks. Designer Milan Sekiz, an experienced LEGO builder, created the KaLEGOidoscope, a functioning kaleidoscope made entirely of LEGO bricks—from its rainbow body to the translucent pieces that create a myriad of patterns within.

The KaLEGOidoscope has the typical structure of a common kaleidoscope—a cylindrical chamber holding three mirrors arranged in the shape of a triangular prism. On one end is the eyepiece, from where you can take a look inside, and on the other is the object chamber, where you can place the paper, tinsel, or beads you'll want to see reflected. As you move it around, geometrical patterns formed by the items and the mirrors inside will appear before your eyes.

Since Sekiz was committed to only using LEGO parts for his KaLEGOidoscope, he had to get creative with one of the key elements—the mirrors. The builder grabbed three rectangle pieces from the Assembly Square set, a now-retired product featuring a reflective surface evoking the mirrors of a dance studio. While the image is not as clear as the one an actual mirror could provide, the result is still trippy and exciting.

The KaLEGOidoscope also has room for customization, as you can open the lid on the end of the cylinder to add and change LEGO studs as your heart desires. While adding solid color studs may be tempting, the patterns may not shine as brightly as they do with translucent pieces. Whether you only pick two matching colors or a whole rainbow, the patterns you'll get will be unique, just like a real kaleidoscope. Just make sure to not fill it to the brim to let the studs slide smoothly as you rotate it.

Sekiz's project is divided into two parts—the kaleidoscope and its stand, which evokes a wooden feeling and even has a little drawer to hold the studs you're not using at the moment. While most projects of this kind have a fixed LEGO brick-count, the customizable nature of the KaLEGOidoscope keeps it from having a set amount.

Sekiz submitted the creation to the LEGO Ideas forum, where, if it reaches 10,000 supporters, it can get reviewed by LEGO staff and potentially become a real LEGO set. So far, the KaLEGOidoscope has been upvoted 2,355 times. Most importantly, it was also named a Staff Pick, a nod given to “fantastic projects that show off something out of the ordinary.” If you want to see the KaLEGOidoscope become a real product, make sure to show your support on its LEGO Ideas page. To stay updated with the KaLEGOidoscope, you can also follow Milan Sekiz on Instagram.

Beauty and the beast castle LEGO set

Many people associate Disney with children’s movies, but the truth is that its films, characters, and parks have millions of adoring adult fans. Tapping into this demographic, LEGO has brought together the charm of fairy tales with the challenge of their detailed architecture models in a brand new Beauty and the Beast Castle set.

Created in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, the 2,916-piece set is recommended for ages 18+. This has to do with the intricacy of the model, which is full of easter eggs and nods to the 1991 movie. Once built, the front shows the opulent façade of the Beast's castle, with ochre-toned details evoking golden finishes with a crest at the top. When you see it from behind, the many levels of the castle come alive, doubling as a dollhouse for you to recreate the story or relive your favorite moments as often as you like.

The set features four detailed levels with many rooms. Among them are the sweeping ballroom with a spinning floor, the dining room with spinning platters where the “Be Our Guest” scene takes place, the tower room that houses the famous enchanted rose, and the soaring library every bookish person who ever watched the movie dreamed of.

The set also comes with 10 adorable minifigures, including Belle in her iconic golden yellow dress and the Beast in his elegant ball outfit, as well as Gaston, LeFou, Maurice, Lumière, Cogsworth, Fifi, Chip, Mrs. Potts, and Sultan. As a cheeky touch, the torn portrait of the Beast's human likeness in LEGO form is hidden somewhere in the castle.

The LEGO Beauty and the Beast Castle set is 20.5 inches tall, 12.5 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, which means it will look great as decor on a shelf or in a cupboard, but it’s also the perfect size to play in and to move it around. LEGO has traded the old paper manual for the LEGO Builder app, where you can find digital instructions, making it easier to build it with someone else.

If you'd like to get your hands on this nostalgia-inducing set, The LEGO Beauty and the Beast Castle set is coming out on April 4, with LEGO Insiders having early access April 1. To learn more, visit LEGO's website.

LEGO Dinosaur Fossils Tyrannosaurus Rex

In the 1990s, Jurassic Park got a lot of people into dinosaurs, and while the movie is now over 30 years old, its legacy lives on. A prime example of this is the LEGO Dinosaur Fossils collection, which draws from the lore of the film to offer detailed dinosaur models. The most spectacular of them all is the new Tyrannosaurus Rex–the largest LEGO Jurassic World set ever made and one of the most impressive in all of LEGO's history.

The 3,145-piece Tyrannosaurus Rex set will surely delight fans of the 1993 film, but it's also so detailed that fans of dinosaurs who are not necessarily as drawn to the movie will love it. Over three feet in length and 12.5 inches tall, this fossil skeleton—if on the bigger side of LEGO displays—is the perfect size to take in its articulated joints, such as a movable head, opening jaw, and posable arms and tail, allowing builders to arrange it at will.

Two minifigures insert the enormous T. Rex model into the world of Jurassic Park and look extra small in comparison to other sets due to the size of the dinosaur; Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern and Sam Neill's characters from the first movie. There are also other nods to the films, like an “amber” piece. Rounding up the model are a display stand to secure your Tyrannosaurus Rex and an information plaque.

Since you may be spending some time putting it together, LEGO made sure to make the instructions extra nice. They come in a coffee-table-style manual that also features design insights, highlights from the movie, and even some T. rex dinosaur facts to impress your guests–as if the model weren't quite impressive on its own.

If you want to order your own Tyrannosaurus Rex from the LEGO Dinosaur Fossils series, mark your calendar, as the general public can order it starting on March 15. If you are a LEGO Insider, the new set was made available on March 12. To stay up to date with any new sets, make sure to follow LEGO on Instagram.

Grand Central Station is one of New York City's most iconic landmarks. People, both locals and tourists, are allured by its sweeping Beaux-Arts style architecture, but also what it represents—it's a gateway to the busy heart of the city. Moved by this, LEGO builder Maria Kalaoglou, better known as Mind the Brick, recreated the famous station with LEGO bricks. The Grand Central Station set she built was then posted to the LEGO Ideas platform, where it now has enough support to be reviewed by LEGO and could become a real official set backed by the company.

The model is tremendously detailed, as the builder captured the grandeur of both the façade and the ornate interior. Built on a 48″ x 40″ base, the set boasts the locale's charming features, such as vintage floor tiles, street lamps, and a glistening ticket booth. The imaginative creation even has the fore-thought for a genuine rush-hour scene—so the commuter's rush is accented with food stalls, luggage carts, brooms, and even a banana peel discarded on the tracks. While Kalaoglou says that there is an abundance of  LEGO train models, there is not that much variety when it comes to train station sets. This set hopes to fill that void.

The builder knows Grand Central Station wouldn't be as exciting without the thousands of people that commute and work there every day. That's why their version includes an eclectic cast of 11 minifigures, plus a cat and a baby, each with their own story. There's Joe the ticket seller, Susan and her child on her way to Paris, Helen the postwoman, Hercules the detective, janitor Old John, and others, reminding us that what truly makes a station come alive is the people.

The Grand Central Station LEGO set is fully modular, allowing builders to remove the ceiling to appreciate the buzz inside, play around the platform, and playfully picture people rushing in from the street. “We tried to imprint all the fuzz and stories that may take place in a train station,” writes Kalaoglou. “It is a train station with endless possibilities of play.”

The model recently achieved the 10,000 supporters it needed on the LEGO Ideas platform to be taken into consideration by LEGO itself. This means the company will now examine the proposal and look into turning it into an official LEGO set that could later be purchased by fans around the world. “Now, it’s time to sit back, relax, and patiently wait for the LEGO Ideas review results. It’ll take a couple of months, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the next big adventure!”

LEGO will review the Grand Central Station set in May, and announce the result in the project page, so make sure to check back then.

Grand Central Station was recreated with LEGO bricks by skilled builder Maria Kalaoglou, aka Mind The Brick.

LEGO LOVE Set inspired by Robert Indiana

In 1970, Robert Indiana designed his first monumental LOVE sculpture in Cor-Ten steel. More than 50 years later, these sculptures continue to decorate countless cities across the United States, cementing themselves as one of the world’s most recognizable and beloved typographic designs. Now, LEGO offers the opportunity to recreate this pop art icon inside your own home.

The LEGO LOVE Set beautifully mimics Indiana’s sculpture, complete with the vivid reds, blues, and greens for which the design is known. The set also incorporates the graceful arches, curves, and decorative elements of the original serif type, an impressive feat given that LEGO bricks are typically rigid and blocky.

Though literally focusing on love, this set isn’t for the faint of heart: it’s composed of nearly 800 bricks, and is better suited for adults rather than children. In that way, the LOVE set is perfectly suited as a Valentine’s Day gift, featuring two sets of instructions for those building the LOVE model with a friend, family member, or partner.

The LEGO LOVE Set is currently retailing for $79.99, and is not only timed to Valentine’s Day, but the sculpture’s 55th anniversary. To purchase your own LOVE model, visit the LEGO website.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, LEGO has released the LOVE set, inspired by Robert Indiana's iconic pop art design.

Vincent van Gogh Sunflowers LEGO Set

In recent years, LEGO has introduced several art-inspired sets designed for adults, allowing fans to recreate iconic paintings using LEGO bricks. There’s a set based on Hokusai’s The Great Wave and another that allows you to assemble Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. And now, art history fans can also bring Vincent van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers to life, brick by brick.

The Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers set was designed in close collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The 2,615-piece set allows anyone to create their own 3D sunflower artwork, complete with 16 sunflowers, adjustable petals, a removable frame, a tile with Van Gogh’s signature, and a hook for display.

Van Gogh painted five large canvases of sunflowers in a vase, using just three shades of yellow—“and nothing else.” Through this bold experiment, he demonstrated that a painting could be both rich and expressive, even when composed entirely of variations of a single color. Similarly, the LEGO set relies on a limited palette of bricks. Despite being made of plastic, the completed build manages to capture the painterly charm of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers from 1888-89.

“Working on one of the world’s most famous paintings can be quite daunting, but recreating Sunflowers has been a dream come true,” says the LEGO set’s designer, Stijn Oom. “We collaborated closely with the Van Gogh Museum and its experts, delving into the details to meticulously craft a 3D version of the original artwork.”

The designer adds, “One of the most challenging yet crucial aspects was translating the impasto effect into LEGO bricks while preserving the painting’s asymmetrical yet balanced composition. We are incredibly proud of the result and hope our fans enjoy building it as much as we enjoyed bringing Van Gogh’s masterpiece to life.”

Rob Groot, managing director of the Van Gogh Museum, shared his excitement that a piece from the museum’s permanent collection has now been brought to life in a LEGO set. “It was wonderful to see how LEGO Group and the experts of our museum have collaborated with such attention to detail and appreciation for the original artwork,” he said in a statement. “We hope this LEGO set will inspire and engage new audiences with the art and life story of Vincent van Gogh.”

As you build the set, you can also listen to an accompanying podcast by LEGO and the Van Gogh Museum, featuring Senior Curator Nienke Bakker and LEGO Designer Stijn Oom. Available starting March 1, 2025 on LEGO.com, YouTube, and Spotify, the podcast explores the collaboration behind the set and the story behind Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings.

The LEGO Art Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers set is now available for pre-order now, and is due to ship on March 1, 2025. Find out more about this incredible product on the LEGO website.
